Generator Services and How They Work
You may think that your building can take power outages by having a backup generator that stands by. Generators though require maintenance that keep them in doing their jobs in keeping power in your building.
It is important to properly check generator parts before power outage happens through parts checking. If generators are regularly maintained, it is cheaper. To assure that it sufficiently provides energy, generators must be tested. To test the generators, a service that specializes Emergency Power Supply System (EPSS) maintenance do the procedure. This article discusses about services for generators, specifically about the load testing of a generator, which involves operating a genset, and artificial load. An independent generator service provider is more needed than a generator manufacturer in finding the mentioned services. An advantage of an EPSS service aside from being cheaper and faster is that, it focuses on the testing and the maintenance of the generators, while manufacturers focus on generator sales and how to improve their products.
A good thing is, emergency power testing of generators can be given is generator services providers are contacted.
Load testings are needed to know the efficiency of generators, whether they operate in the nameplate kilowatt ratings. Monthly tests must be done while abiding on the resulation of the National Fire Protection code 110 as the first step of load testing. Monthly rating would require the genset to operate at an available load and either work at a minimum of 30% of its nameplate kilowatt rating or achieve the lowest exhaust gas temperature. If not acquired, the generator must be tested annually under artificial load test that requires load bank, as stated by NFA 110.
Load bank testing usually increases the efficiency of the generator. Another good thing is that, it can fix wet-stacking – in which the generator’s exhaust side traps unburned fuels. Load banks are successful in evaporating unburned fuels that causes wet-stacking. The unburned fuels need to be evaporated so that parts of the generator will not get broken.
Monthly, yearly, or triennial generator services can be conducted. In order to avoid more problems, do an emergency power testing before the power outage.
Owning a generator can maintain your business and save it from power outages. Regardless of the kind of generator you have, maximizing its purpose requires you to keep it intact with its parts and checked from time to time.…
